Have you ever had the biggest lightbulb moment while taking a shower? No, that’s too bad, lol. All my best ideas happen when I am in the shower jamming to some techno music. My big “lightbulb” moment was a marry of my lessons learned from my two previous jobs – building your direct sales foundation the right way (or any new career)! Why is building your direct sales foundation the right way important? Simply put, if you do not, your direct sales business will fail.
Building your Direct Sales Foundation the Right Way
I used to be a math teacher and an analogy I used to use was, you need to have a great foundation in basic math skills before you learn the next level or the next level will crash – following me? Well, this totally pertains to ALL the things in Direct Sales!
When I was with a different DS, I really didn’t have to do much and I totally rocked my business.
Then the tides changed as they do and I made a ton of excuses (our house was on the market, we were moving to another state, when x happens I will do y, etc.) While I drove around in my BMW (Bitch Moan & Whine mobile) my business slowly crashed and burned. I should have been focused on building my direct sales business the right way. Instead, I chose to make my foundation out of excuses and laziness – basically a paper shell, it was no wonder that it didn’t hold shit! It got all crumpled, torn, and soggy – like my business.
I chose to switch (not because of above) companies and do things the right way – like ALL the way. I hired a design team to create my branding (because designing logos is not my Jam and I needed to focus elsewhere) and now I have an awesome logo that is perfect for ME and MY branding! Then I finally started paying attention to the training in the premium coaching group that I belong to (yeah, I was paying for all that goodness and not really paying attention or implementing any of it, lol). I have a HUGE SCARY goal on purpose – I know I can achieve it, but I also know I needed help and direction – queue hiring a private coach! After finishing my last personal coaching session, I have a clear action plan to help me proceed to the next level – woohoo!
After the Foundation is Set
Here’s the thing, laying the foundation takes time and is boring. You have to mix the ingredients of the foundation just right (find what works for YOU!), you need to level everything off (get a system in place that works for YOU) and then wait (patience is not a virtue I have) for it to set appropriately. Once this is done correctly, you can start adding the framing (mastering different social media platforms – one at a time, etc.) to your foundation. Again, this takes TIME!! Like I said before, I am not the most patient person, lol; however, I have seen this happen with students who just keep at it and then – BOOM, they totally get it and launch themselves to the next level! I’m still in the framing stage, but every day I see proof that I am on the right track!!!
Just Do You
Sometimes you just need to be yourself, I had to learn it was OK to be ME through all of this. Being Me is OK, actually, it’s more than OK – it’s necessary or my foundation will crack. Think of it as a termite infestation: by trying to be someone else I am trying to live someone else’s best life and not my own. Like my own isn’t good enough. Then the self-doubt kicks in and the next thing you know, you are in the BMW again making it your home. My word this year is BRAVE – well that BRAVE hit me in the shower – Right.In.The.Face!
